THE PLANT:

Coffee Blossom Essential Oil, is extracted from the pillowy white blossoms of the Coffea robusta shrub, growing in Madagascar. In the spring the coffee plant produces fantastic white, sweet-scented flowers. The berries then appear, changing from green to yellow to red as they ripen.

CULTURAL MEANING:

Originally, the coffee plant had been misclassified as belonging to the jasmine family, which made it difficult to understand its growing processes. Step onto a coffee plantation in full bloom, take in a long breath, and you’ll understand why people thought it was jasmine. Each blooming flower is a symbol of the coffee bean that will come months later. Ideally, arabica coffee plants will receive around 1,600-1,800 millimeters of rain in a season. With optimum rainfall, each coffee tree can have up to 40,000 flowers. The self-polinating plants are respectfully left alone when blooming.

For most people in the world the coffee plant symbolises a helping hand in times of need. According to legend it all started some 500 years ago. Somewhere in Ethiopia the monastery goats became unsettled. After some detective work the owners discovered that the animals had been grazing on the coffee bushes. The goats were the source of inspiration for coffee: the owners ground up some beans and placed them in boiling water. The taste and the aroma were amazing ... Kahveh - which means ‘stimulating’ - was born.
